BMW Motorcycle Reflector-Related Recalls Continue to Grow

on November 6, 2017

BMW has added nearly 1,500 additional motorcycles to its list of bikes being recalled because their rear reflectors are partially blocked from view. This time the issue involves license plates partially blocking the reflectors from view, creating a safety hazard. Affected are:

  • 2014-2016 F 800 GT
  • 2015-2016 F 800R

Starting Nov.13, 2017, BMW will notify owners, and dealers will modify the license plate holder to re-position the rear side reflex reflectors, free of charge.

In August, BMW recalled nearly 30,000 motorcycles because aluminum luggage carriers were blocking the reflectors. This recall affected the following seven BMW models:

  • 2013-2017 R1200GS
  • 2013-2017 F800R
  • 2013-2017 F800GT
  • 2014-2017 R1200GS
  • 2016-2017 S1000XR
  • 2015-2017 R1200R
  • 2015-2017 R1200RS
